Etna, from Sicily to the World….

The last day in Sicily, a very warm summer and still, one thing left to do… go up the Etna!!

Impotent and at the same time, welcoming, pumping each day, present with its “fumarolas” and its eternal snow pasted into the sky; offering different landscapes in winter and in summer.

In summer there is land, in winter it gets covered in snow.

We were in Linguaglossa (.. heart, memories: thank you Carmen, Concetto and to all the family), located in the slope of the volcano, it offers delicious crops and a  closeness that let us get there as quickly as possible to complete our objective.

From Linguaglossa, the journey took around an hour, plus the stops we made to delight us and to wince at the places that the lava once reached and see the new landscape changed by its presence. An all terrain vehicle picked us up and its driver, the one encharged to take us to the hostel in the base of the volcano and then… we had to walk.

10,964 feet tall!!! It is said that the Etna is the most active volcano in Europe. Any information or article can’t compare to the sensation of being in the place: walking in the forest, arid spaces, huge walls of dry lava…

Hours and hours of walking with our guide up until it was allowed, discovering the plant life, spotting the lava: the caves that formed naturally, the remains of its incredible strength and at the same time, the beauty of those places.

Estatic from the emotions, stories and images; warmed up by a heavy morning from the summer, warm like no other and deeply thankful, we went down to Linguaglossa and from there, to Catania, to go back home.

We are so thankful…..we made it!!!!!!!
